Students will immerse themselves in a literature rich environment where they will focus on fiction and non-fiction reading and writing instruction. Students, in addition, will strengthen and develop their word work skills, which includes spelling, vocabulary, and grammar. Listening and speaking skills will also be developed and strengthened.

Independent Reading Expectations
Students will be given independent reading time during the school day, as building reading stamina is an important component of readers workshop. In addition to reading in school, students will be expected to read a minimum of 20-30 minutes a night at home. Students will complete reading logs and reflect on their individual progress in class.
